What are Compact
Nursing States?

There are 34 compact states and 16 non-compact states in the US. Compact nursing license, otherwise called multistate license, is applicable in compact states where nurses can practice in any of the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) states. However, for non-compact states, nurses should have a state-specific license.

Having a state license applicable to a compact state doesn't mean your license works for multiple states. For a multi-state license, you'll have to apply specifically where we'll help you every step!

The Interstate Nurse Licensure Compact (INLC) is an agreement among participating U.S. states that allows registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) to practice across state lines without obtaining additional licenses. It streamlines the licensure process and promotes nursing mobility and access to healthcare services.
The Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) is an updated version of the original Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). It allows registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) to have a multistate license, granting them the ability to practice in participating states. The eNLC enhances nursing mobility, facilitates telehealth, and promotes access to quality healthcare across state boundaries.
